Journey to Baku - 7th February 2012
Update from Baku 7th February 22:30
The flight was very smooth, comfortable and the squad seemed to have a great time, laughing and enjoying each others company.
After arriving safely following a 6 hour flight to Baku airport the team were welcomed to minus 4 degrees snow and a bitter wind. The temperature dropped and all thermals, coats, gloves and hats were quickly worn !
The team finally arrived at Hotel Qafqaz, which is absolutely beautiful inside. The team settled to a late evening meal and bed.
A huge congratulations to Steve Coupland who has organized the trip, travel and hotel. Great start to the trip!
Training will begin on Day 2, with report and pictures to follow!!
From earlier in the day:
The Squad met at Heathrow airport bright and early on what was a very cold morning - perhaps good preparation for the weather in Azerbaijan! Everyone was in very good spirits and the atmosphere was very relaxed, friendly and positive. Ticky Donovan O.B.E. as head of delegation along with Liz Legg as lead chaperone had everyone organised and check in was smooth, fast and without event. Dave Inman came prepared with hand cleansing sprays for everyone which were very warmly received and appreciated.
The 'London' contingent of athletes and staff then went through passport control to meet up with the rest of the squad who had flown in from Manchester.
More news to hopefully follow after the Squad's arrival in Baku tonight, internet connection at the hotel permitting.
