Day 2 - Pre Championship Registration Day
The Senior squad, both Kat and Kumite athletes, had their final pre-training session last week in Birmingham before flying out yesterday, Wednesday, to Zurich in Switzerland to compete in the European Senior Karate Championships.
The squad met up at Gatwick Airport at 4:30am for the short flight to Zurich. Accompanying the squad to Switzerland was Ticky Donovan OBE as Head Of Delegation and EKF National Coach Wayne Otto OBE, two of the biggest names in Karate. EKF President Carl Lindley joined up with the squad on a later flight. After arriving very early at the hotel the squad spent the day relaxing and recouping their energies for the coming championships.
Today the squad remained at the hotel while the registrations were completed, the coach's meeting took place and draws made all at the headquarters hotel. Tomorrow the championships start with the individual Kata events followed by the -84kg, +84kg, -75kg male categories plus the female -68kg and +68kg Kumite categories.
