Colin Smith

Southern Region Assistant Kata Coach
EKF Coach

Sensei Colin Smith has been doing karate for over 35 years. He has a wealth of experience in traditional and sport karate. As with most karateka of he’s age, he started in judo but it was karate that inspired him more, and that led him to a lifetime of study in Shotokan karate.

Sensei Smith has trained under, and alongside, some of the top Japanese, European and English instructors within Shotokan karate, and still to this day, travels long distances to train with them and obtain their knowledge.

Within the years of his training, sensei smith has trained with instructors from other styles and has learnt from them and adopted their training methods into his own unique teaching style. He has excellent communication skills with a buoyant and effervescent personality.

With an eye for detail and an advocate for good correct technique, he is often present at grading’s and courses around the UK.

As a former England kata squad member himself, he knows what it takes to become a top competitor and a strong kata athlete. And with his Shotokan kata knowledge and experience at a competitive high level, he will be a great addition to the coaching team.
