Matthew Handley

Matthew Handley

Head National Para Coach
EKF Coach

More information about Matt’s karate history can be found under his regional coach profile however, with specific regards to Para-karate, Matt was successful in being appointed the Head Coach role following interviews and was formally appointed in September 2019. This follows on from the extensive work that Matt has previously been undertaking with Halifax Sport Karate member Ethan Simpson who is currently travelling and competing on the world stage.

Matt has had great success with Ethan in ensuring that incredibly advanced black belt katas (such as Unsu) are perfectly adapted to wheelchair use – no easy feat! Matt has also been the Disability Ambassador for the EKF attending a number of large multi-disciplinary sporting events and working incredibly closely with Sport England. Matt’s challenge now is to encourage participation in the sport and art of karate for people with additional needs and making the EKF the most inclusive martial arts governing body that it can possibly be.

If you have any questions about how you or a loved one may be able to train in karate no matter what your circumstances than please do not hesitate to contact Matt who will be happy to help.
