With almost 50 years of experience in karate, Julian began his journey in 1977 and has dedicated his life to the pursuit of technical excellence. His deep understanding of kata—built through decades of study, competition, and coaching—has established him as one of the leading figures in this discipline.

As a competitor, Julian has travelled and competed extensively across the world, achieving significant international success. His many achievements include winning gold in Japan for two consecutive years, as well as securing victory at the prestigious Goodwill Championships for four consecutive years, competing against athletes from over 30 countries. These accomplishments reflect not only his technical precision, but also his ability to deliver high-level kata performances under pressure on the world stage.

Julian is particularly renowned for his exceptional knowledge of kata, including the fine detail, application, timing, rhythm, and presentation required at elite level. His ability to break down and refine technique has made him a highly sought-after coach for athletes aiming to compete at the highest standard.

As a coach, Julian has produced some of England’s top kata athletes, many of whom have achieved success nationally and internationally. Sensei Jumoke is a dedicated karate instructor and kata specialist, recognised for his passion, technical precision, and commitment to developing athletes both physically and mentally.

Beginning his karate journey at just 4 years old, Jumoke trained under the guidance of his father, John Richards. From an early age, he developed a strong connection to kata, particularly enjoying the opportunity to perform and express his ability in front of others. He competed in kata competitions across the country throughout his youth, building both experience and confidence in high-pressure environments.

Jumoke’s passion for kata lies in its unique combination of intensity, control, and focus. He values the discipline it demands—both physically and mentally—and believes that performing in competition plays a vital role in developing confidence, composure, and the ability to deliver under pressure.

Since 2016, Jumoke has been teaching full-time at Zen-Shin Martial Arts Academy in Birmingham, where he has developed his coaching approach around technical refinement, mindset development, and performance under pressure. He is committed to helping athletes not only improve their kata, but to truly understand it, enabling them to perform with confidence and clarity.

Jumoke is passionate about supporting athletes at all levels and is looking forward to contributing to the continued development of the EKF kata squad. His focus is on raising standards, refining technical ability, and helping athletes perform at their very best when it matters most.

Sensei Nariman Jeddi is a highly respected karate instructor, referee, competitor, and coach with over 50 years of experience in karate. Renowned for his exceptional knowledge and understanding of Shito-Ryu kata, he has dedicated his life to the development of athletes and the progression of high-level karate.

As the founder and Chief Instructor of Hanko Ryu Karate-Do, Sensei Jeddi has built a strong reputation for technical excellence, precision, and traditional values within kata performance and coaching.
