The English Karate Federation delivered a highly successful open training day in Birmingham, bringing together athletes and officials for kata, kumite, and referee development in a positive and focused environment.
The sessions were led by some of England’s most experienced international coaches and officials, all with proven success at the highest level and an excellent track record of producing champions. Their knowledge and approach created a high-quality learning experience for everyone in attendance.
The kata sessions focused on key areas such as timing, technical execution, performance, and a deeper understanding of competition rules. Athletes were supported in refining the finer details that can make a significant difference in competition performance.
The kumite sessions concentrated on movement, timing, tactical awareness, and decision-making under pressure. These elements are critical for success in competition, and the structured delivery allowed athletes to develop both confidence and clarity in their approach.
The referee course was a particularly strong aspect of the day, with a committed group of officials working to develop their understanding of positioning, decision-making, and the practical application of rules. This marks the beginning of developing a new generation of confident and capable referees, which is essential for the continued growth and integrity of the sport.
A sincere thank you goes to all those who attended and contributed to such a productive and professional day. Appreciation is also extended to the coaches, referees, and organisers who ensured the event ran smoothly, as well as to the English associations who supported the session.
Feedback from both athletes and parents has been extremely positive, reflecting the quality of the coaching and the overall atmosphere of the day.
Special thanks to , Aj Daniels, Andreas Michaelides, Nariman Jeddi and Julian Mallalieu, Jumoke Richards for their contribution and leadership throughout the day.
The EKF looks forward to building on this positive momentum in upcoming sessions and competitions, and continuing to provide high-quality opportunities for athletes, coaches, and officials across the karate community.
