Shihan Darvill-Bessent started taking an interest in different Martial Arts forms and attended different open training courses. In 1990, he was introduced to Goju Ryu Karate. Later in 1991, Shihan formed his group which became the Academy it is today. He affiliated his group with the association that graded him to black belt. He also started going around the country training with many top-level instructors.

The Academy if Part of the English Karate Federation, British Karate Federation & the World Karate Federation. Shihan is graded to 7th Dan Black belt.
