Based in the East Surrey area with additional clubs in London, Ren Ryū Karate Club (RRKC) was founded in 2020 although the club itself dates back to 1976. Originally run by Shihan Brian ‘Dicky’ Dowler of British Karate-Jutsu Remnei the club has passed through many organisations since including Sensei Sue Pryor of the British Traditional Karate Association (BTKA) amongst others - RRKC is therefore the evolution of a long line of instructors and styles.

RRKC aims to provide its students with a wide range of opportunities and avenues with which to explore their karate journey. Students can learn the traditional, self-protection and sporting sides of karate within a friendly and supportive environment. Suitable for all ages and abilities, the wealth of experience of our instructors can take you from beginner to black belt.

Ren 蓮 is the character denoting a Lotus flower which in many East Asian religions symbolises purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth - an accurate representation of Ren Ryū’s journey and values. Students at RRKC should build purity of character and embody other mental values such as fudoshin (immovable mind) and mushin (empty mind).

Ryū 流 is the character meaning school or style. RRKC aims to provide students with a mix of styles based on our own instructor’s experiences including Shotokan, Wado Ryu, Shito Ryu, Kyokushinkai, and Goju Ryu.
