Support and Resources

Helping you find the right support

We know that not every barrier fits neatly into a category, and sometimes you may need help without knowing exactly where to start.

At the English Karate Federation, we want to make it easier for you to find the right support. Here, we have gathered practical information and trusted organisations that may be helpful for karateka, parents, carers, families, clubs and coaches. Some offer support within sport, while others specialise in areas such as caring, financial difficulty, discrimination, mental health, personal safety and abuse.

While the EKF cannot provide every type of specialist support, we are here to help you find the right people and organisations who can. Our role is to guide you towards those with the right knowledge and experience.

Everyone requires different types of support

For parents, carers, and anyone facing practical or personal barriers, it is important to know that support is available and that you do not need to have all the answers before reaching out. Often, the best place to start is to have a conversation with your club about what could help a karateka feel more comfortable, communicate, participate, or enjoy training more fully.

Clubs should listen, ask helpful questions, and work with each individual wherever possible. We also recognise that inclusion can be affected by things outside the dojo, such as membership fees, equipment costs, travel, school, work, caring responsibilities, or family circumstances. These can make it harder to take part, even when someone wants to be involved.

Sometimes, support is needed that goes beyond what a karate organisation can provide, such as help with discrimination, mental health, abuse, harassment, domestic violence, or other serious personal circumstances. In these situations, the EKF cannot replace specialist organisations, but we can make reliable information easier to find, help people understand where to turn, and signpost to organisations with the right expertise.

Our aim is to ensure that karateka, parents, carers, clubs, and families know they are not alone, and that when support is needed, there is a clear way to find it.

Useful organisations & resources

The organisations below offer specialist information and support in areas that may affect people in our karate community. Some are directly connected with sport and physical activity, while others provide wider support beyond karate.

We will keep reviewing and developing this directory as our Inclusion work grows.

Financial & practical support

Help us improve this page

This resource directory will grow as we learn more about what the karate community needs.

If you are a karateka, parent, carer, coach or club and there is support you think should be easier to find, please let us know. If you have used an organisation or resource that could help others in the karate community, we would like to hear about it.

We will continue to review the organisations we signpost to and develop new EKF guidance where there is a clear need for something specific to karate.
