EKF Open, September 2010

The second EKF Open and England Squad session took place on Sunday 5th of September.

A great turn out of over 100 atheltes attended the session which was overseen by National Coach Wayne Otto OBE, his Assistant Coach's Ian Cole, Jonathan Mottram and Ady Gray. After the initial warm up which was taken by Senior Squad member Natalie Williams who has recently returned from the World Combat Games, the athletes were then placed with their respective coach's. Jon & Ady taking the kata atheltes and Wayne and Ian taking the kumite athletes. As the open session was taking place in the main sports hall at Barnsley Sports College, Chief Referee Dale Gamble was taking an elite referees course, where many referees attended.

After a short break it was time to get down to the selections. The selections are for those trying for a spot on the 'A' squad and atheltes selecting for the Junior European Championships which will be held in Serbia in February 2011. Dale Gamble and the referees then joined the athletes to start the selection process. After a grueling couple of hours the selections where over with Wayne informing the athletes what will happen in the final selection in October.

The EKF would like to thank the staff at Barnsley Sports Academy for all their help in preparing the venue. The EKF would also like to thank Karen Gardiner from Shindo Kai for providing refreshments for the parents and supporters and to Mr & Mrs Hickman from USA karate for helping as table officials. Thank you to the referees who helped with the smooth running of the selections and all the parents/supporters who came to watch. The next session for both kata & Kumite will be in Barking Essex and forms will be sent to invited athletes and 'A' squad members. A list of invited athletes and 'A' squad members will be posted on the squad news page soon.
